Stations of the Eucharist (cont.)

Station 4: Miracle of the Loaves

  Proceed to the table with processional candle #2.
  • Versicle [Mark 8:6]
    Celebrant: Taking the loaves Jesus gave thanks and broke them;
    People: He gave them to his disciples to distribute.
     
  • Reading: Mark 8:1-9 — preferably read by a deacon or priest
     
  • Hymn: "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" *
     
  • Prayer [Collect for Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Easter]
    God our Father, life of the faithful, glory of the humble, happiness of the just, hear our prayer. Fill our emptiness with the blessing of the eucharist, the foretaste of eternal joy. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
  • Verse: "Pange lingua gloriosi" [verse 4] *
    Verbum caro, panem verum, Verbo carnem efficit:
    Fitque sanguis Christi merum, Et si sensus deficit,
    Ad firmandum cor sincerum, Sola fides sufficit.

    This is sung while moving to the next station.

Station 5: The Appearance at Emmaus

  Proceed to the table with the incense.
  • Versicle [Luke 24:35]
    Celebrant: The disciples' eyes were opened,
    People: And they recognized the Lord Jesus in the breaking of the bread.
     
  • Reading: Luke 24:13-16, 28-32 — preferably read by a deacon or priest
     
  • Choral Music: "Humbly I Adore Thee" (J. David Hart) *
     
  • Prayer [Collect for Votive Mass of the Holy Eucharist – A]
    Father, you have brought to fulfillment the work of our redemption through the Easter mystery of Christ your Son. May we who faithfully proclaim his death and resurrection in sacramental signs experience the constant growth of your salvation in our lives. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
  • Verse: "Pange lingua gloriosi" [verse 5] *
    Tantum ergo sacramentum Veneremur cernui:
    Et antiquum documentum Novo cedat ritui:
    Præstet fides supplementum Sensuum defectui.

    This is sung while moving to the next station.

Station 6: The Bread of Life Discourse

  Proceed to the table with the empty monstrance.
  • Versicle [John 6:51]
    Celebrant: I am the living bread from heaven, says the Lord.
    People: If anyone eats this bread he will live for ever.
     
  • Reading: John 6:31-35, 53b-56 — preferably read by a deacon or priest
     
  • Organ Music: "Pange lingua" (Nicolas deGrigny) [Anthologia pro organo IV - Schott Frères] *
     
  • Prayer [Prayer after Communion for Votive Mass of All Saints]
    God, you feed us with one bread and sustain us with one hope. By your love make our faith strong, that with all your saints we may become one body, one spirit in Christ, and rise to eternal glory with him, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
  • Verse: "Pange lingua gloriosi" [verse 6] *
    Genitori genitoque Laus et jubilatio,
    Salus, honor, virtus quoque, Sit et benedictio:
    Procedenti ab utroque Compar sit laudatio.

    -- after last verse to be sung:  Amen.

    This verse is sung while the monstrance is set on the altar and the candles near the altar, and while the Sacred Host is placed in the monstrance. The processional cross is set in its usual position.

    Verses 5 and 6 may be repeated as necessary until the Blessed Sacrament has been incensed.

Station 7: The Last Supper / Exposition and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament

  • Reading: Matthew 26:26-30 — read by the celebrant
     
  • Homily
     
  • Hymn: "O Saving Victim Opening Wide" (O salutaris hostia) *
     
  • Versicle:
    Celebrant: You have given them bread from heaven (P.T. Alleluia);
    People: Having all sweetness within it (P.T. Alleluia).
     
  • Prayer:
    Lord Jesus Christ, you gave us the Eucharist as the memorial of your suffering and death. May our worship of this sacrament of your body and blood help us to experience the salvation you won for us and the peace of the kingdom, where you live with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
  • Benediction: The celebrant puts on the humeral veil and blesses the people with the Eucharist.
     
  • Divine Praises: As the celebrant replaces the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle, the following acclamations are said or sung:
    • Blessed be God.
    • Blessed be his Holy Name.
    • Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man.
    • Blessed be Name of Jesus.
    • Blessed be his most Sacred Heart.
    • Blessed be his most Precious Blood.
    • Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
    • Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.
    • Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy.
    • Blessed be be her holy and Immaculate Conception.
    • Blessed be be her glorious Assumption.
    • Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother.
    • Blessed be Saint Joseph, her most chaste spouse.
    • Blessed be God in his angels and in his saints.

Closing Hymn

    "Alleluia! Sing to Jesus" [tune- Hyfrydol] *

    This is sung as the celebrant and acolytes (carrying incense, cross and candles) leave the sanctuary.
