This liturgical work is "dedicated to The Most Reverend Mark E. Brennan, as he begins his pastoral ministry as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston."

Reflecting this are musical and textual elements.

The antiphon uses music from the chant Gradual for the Common of Pastors, Ecce sacerdos magnus. The first five words of this antiphon, "Living the truth in love, we should grow in every way to be like Christ, the Head," [Ephesians 4:15] are the new episcopal motto for Bishop Brennan as Ordinary of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston. An optional descant and handbell part is included with the antiphon.

Verses, also from Ephesians 4 [1b-3, 4-6, 11-12, 13, 22-24, 30-32], are set for cantor with organ, but can also be sung by SATB choir. The last verse mirrors Bishop Brennan's first motto as auxilliary in Baltimore, Docete omnes gentes ("Teach all nations"), taken from Matthew 28:19. This proceeds to the Trinitarian text, "baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit," which leads into the conclusion of the doxology, "as it was in the beginning …"

The antiphon/verse format allows Ephesians Prayer to be easily sung at the Entrance Procession or the Communion Procession.
