The composer, David Lasky, wrote to CNP:
I absolutely love the title that you've given to the collection (The Beauty of Holiness)!
It's a title that not only may pique the interest of customers, but, more important, shows me what you think of this music: that it is both beautiful and, by this beauty, manifests the holy.
It is easy music to play, which should go over well with organists (although to interpret it well, I think, requires a degree of musical and spiritual maturity), and is written with congregants keenly in mind.
The three pieces in this collection were written as soft, meditative selections, useful at Communion time or as a quiet Prelude.
Each takes inspiration from a passage of Scripture, and was distinctly written in French Romantic style.
- Blessed Are Those Who Seek Peace – Mt 5:9 – Sections with flowing eighth notes in 6/8 time sandwich a more lively solo melody.
- Merciful and Kind Is Our Gracious Lord – Ps 103:8 – A lovely C Major melody over a suspension-rich accompaniment gives way to flowing eighth notes on a single manual; The initial melody returns, eventually closing in E Major.
- Your Dwelling Place Is Lovely, O Lord – Ps 84:1 – Starting as a g minor trio, the piece leads to richer sections in D Major and G Major before returning to the g minor trio material, finishing with a well-placed Picardy third.
It is our hope that these meditative pieces will add considerable beauty and holiness to the many Catholic spaces that maintain a high regard for the organ and what this instrument brings to the sacred liturgy.
