Required Resources: 3-octave handbells
This newest addition to our handbell literature is an arrangement of the Lenten hymn, What Wondrous Love?.
Three verses of the hymn tune are set in this easy piece for 3-octave handbells, using a variety of handbell techniques.
Beyond simple ringing, this arrangement also uses mallets and gyro for effect on verses two and three.
A Level 1 piece, there is only one bell switch — to an F-sharp at the end, closing on a D Major chord.
Catholic Handbell directors know that finding good Lenten repertoire is difficult.
Here's a piece to program during Lent ... perhaps on Laetare Sunday, when the bells are all the more appropriate.
