Not the Christmas carol you may be thinking of, "Good Christian Men, Rejoice and Sing" is an Easter text sung to the tune Gelobet sei Gott.
The tune, from an early 17th century German songbook edited by Melchior Vulpius, is here set for a cappella SATB choir.
Not a typical sequential stanza setting, this creative arrangement weaves the melody (or fragments) in various voices, with contrapuntal "accompaniment" voices and effective meter changes.
Four verses are set:
- Good Christian men, rejoice and sing...
- The Lord of life is ris'n for aye...
- Praise we in song of victory...
- Thy name we bless, O risen Lord...
We are very pleased to have Donna N. Robertson from North Carolina represented in our catalog.
She writes, "The Church has always played a large part in my musical development, and when I began composing as a teenager, one of my ambitions was to write the very best music I could for the greater glory of God.
I am still trying."
Mrs. Robertson is retired after 42 years as organ teacher, college organist, and theory-composition professor at Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, North Carolina.
She now enjoys the luxury of having more time for composition.
