Use: Eastertide
Required Resources: 2-part mixed choir, congregation, organ
Optional Resources: SATB choir, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones
Language: English New 2010 Translation
Based on the hymn tune Lyra Davidica (Jesus Christ Is Ris'n Today), Paschal Gloria is a crisp and immediately-engaging setting in responsorial form.
A congregational refrain based on the first four measures of the hymn tune is supported with choral harmonies for SB (or optional SATB) voices, all using the text from the 2010 translation of the Roman Missal.
The verses, also loosely quoting other parts of the familiar melody, are set for two-part mixed choir.
The organ accompaniment is just as polished and appropriate as one might expect from the talented organist-composer, J. William Greene.
He is equally comfortable on a three-manual Aeolian-Skinner or a two-manual tracker, and his organ writing always lies well under hands and feet.
An optional scoring for brass quartet (2 trumpets, 2 trombones) adds a festive sound to this Eastertide hymn of praise.
