Use: Good Friday
Required Resources: SATB choir
Language: Greek and English New 2010 Translation
The Reproaches can be sung during the Veneration of the Cross in the liturgy for Good Friday.
They embody a touching lament, placed in the mouth of the Savior himself, recounting the great deeds God has done for us, and how each was repudiated by our sins:
"I gave you saving water from the rock to drink, and for drink you gave me gall and vinegar."
This setting is for SATB choir and congregation (a cappella), and is meant for use on Good Friday when the organ should be silent.
The piece is unison, except for a refrain which is set in simple SATB harmony.
A congregational refrain is included for copying onto a liturgy sheet or worship aid.
Note: Some copies of this piece were shipped in which the music in the congregational refrain box was in the wrong key.
Those who have such copies can download this corrected PDF file.
