he recipient of the 1998 Palestrina Award is Michael Dudis.
Michael is a product of the university town of State College, Pennsylvania where he was born, a bicentenniel baby, in 1976.
He attended Our Lady of Victory Elementary School and the State College Area Junior and Senior High Schools.
He will graduate from The Pennsylvania State University in May 2000, with a degree in Psychology.
An avid sports fan, he has attended every home Penn State football and basketball game for at least the last five years.
In mid-August of 2000 he will begin graduate studies in Clinical Psychology at George Mason University in Fairfax VA.
Mike was always interested in music; he started singing in church choirs quite young, and has taken both piano and organ lessons.
As a talented handbell ringer, he was asked to be assistant director of the Saint Dunstan Ringers at Our Lady of Victory Church in State College.
He also served as director of the youth choir at the church.
In addition to sports and music, Mike also enjoys cooking and tasting wines and beers.
For the past several years he's visited the Food and Wine Festival at EPCOT Center (Walt Disney World, Orlando FL) and frequently hones his culinary skills at home.
As a part-time member of CanticaNOVA Publications' staff Mike has filled many roles on various projects and was instrumental in proofreading our first published work, the Book of Sung Gospels, which contains 42 Gospels set to an ancient chant tone.
Mike exhibits a firm commitment to the role quality music plays in fostering true liturgical prayer.
His musical upbringing and his exposure to the treasures of choral art have fostered a dedication to traditional style in liturgical music.
In addition to his various projects with CanticaNOVA Publications, Mike has dabbled in composing and we are pleased to offer the following piece by him in our catalogue:
It is our pleasure to thank Mike for the extensive help he has provided to the rest of us here at CanticaNOVA Publications,
and to formally recognize his contribution through this award.
