Cody Willmot

C ody Mead is the Director of Music at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Newport, Rhode Island. A native of northeastern Pennsylvania, Mr. Mead began his professional career as a church musician at age 16. His primary organ teachers were Mark Laubach and William Porter, and he also pursued conducting with William Decker and voice with Mary Decker and Georgette Hutchins, among others. In Rhode Island, Mr. Mead has developed a robust and growing music program at Saint Mary Church, Newport, including a multi-generational choral program with three choirs totaling over fifty members. He has taken his choirs on singing trips to Boston and Cambridge, as well as upcoming choir trips to New York City and Washington, DC, with a tri-fold mission of performance, service, and education.

In 2015, he started Saint Mary’s Summer Concerts — a series of free, weekly concerts during the summer months. In addition to the summer concert series, Mr. Mead administers a year-long series of concerts at the church, including collaborations with the Ecclesia Consort, the Brookline Consort, the Newport String Project and others.

For four years, Mr. Mead served as organ teacher for the Bloomsburg Preparatory School of Music in Bloomsburg, PA. As an organist, he has performed publicly throughout the East Coast and Midwest.

In July of 2018, Mr. Mead conducted Alexandra Batsios and Renée Rapier with Collegium Anchora in a performance of the Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, part of the closing concert of the Newport Music Festival’s 50th Anniversary Season.
