ichael Cox travels extensively conducting choral clinics across the country and maintains memberships with the College Music Society, American Choral Directors Association, and the Conductors Guild.
In 2009 he retired as Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's School of Church Music, where he also directed the Men's Chorus.
He is currently Director of Music Ministries at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.
Dr. Cox has degrees in piano performance, orchestral conducting and composition from Oklahoma Baptist University, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and Florida State University.
Prior to joining the faculty at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1990, he taught at Oklahoma Baptist University and the Univeristy of Louisville.
As a composer, Dr. Cox has more than 160 published works and has received the Standard Award from ASCAP for ten consecutive years.
He receives numerous commissions and requests for his music, and was honored as the commissioned composer for the Texas Music Teachers Association Conference in 1995.
In addition to his work as a composer, he has extensive background in choral and orchestral conducting, including a tenure with the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison Glee Club, with the Concerto Aria Competition with OBU students and members of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra, and guest conducting with the Fort Worth Civic Orchestra and the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving.
He is married to Rhonda B. Cox and has two children, Courtney and Christopher.
