Award-winning Australian composer Dr. Colin Brumby is a master of the canon form, as is witnessed by his popular octavos, Three Sacred Rounds, Volume 1 and Three Rounds for the Christmas Cycle.

The texts of these new rounds (Ave Maria, God Be in My Head, Saint Patrick's Prayer) are:

• Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum, benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus.
  Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc et in hora mortis nostræ. Amen.

• God be in my head, And in my understanding;
  God be in mine eyes, And in my looking;
  God be in my mouth, And in my speaking;
  God be in my heart, And in my thinking;
  God be at mine end, And at my departing. Amen.

• Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me,
  Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me,
  Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
  Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger. Amen.

These a cappella rounds can be flexibly used by small groups or combined choirs, in the choir loft or sanctuary, around or outside the church. As with the rounds in Volume 1, instruments can play the round as an introduction, or double the sung parts. Flexibility, simplicity, and masterful writing make these rounds a valuable addition to any choir's repertoire!
