r. Friel is currently Parochial Vicar at Saint Anselm Parish in Philadelphia PA.
His education began in Warminster PA and continued with three degrees from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook PA.
The concentration for his M.A. in Pastoral Theology was Sacred Music with a thesis topic The Propriety of the Propers: Toward the Independence of Liturgical Chant and Popular Hymnody.
During his seminary years in Philadelphia, Father served as master of ceremonies, schola member, choir director and organist.
His awards include Excellence in the Study of Scripture (Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary), Excellence in Preaching Award (Serra Club of Philadelphia), Good Citizenship Award (Union League of Philadelphia), and Saint John Neumann Award (Archdiocesan Committee on Scouting).
He is a contributor to the blog at Corpus Christi Watershed and has his Mass of Saint John Neumann published online there.
Father Friel currently holds membership in the Church Music Association of America, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and the Association of Church Musicians in Philadelphia.
