r. Greene serves as Organist-Choirmaster at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynchburg, Virginia.
He directs the adult choir and the handbell choir, and plays the 1991 Taylor & Boody tracker organ of 20 ranks.
He is building a choristers program based on the principles of the Royal School of Church Music.
Prior to his present position, Dr. Greene was Organist-Choirmaster of Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester, New York, where he directed the Cathedral Choir of 32 voices, trained the cathedral cantors, played for all Masses, and led the School Mass Choirs and Handbell Choir. In 1993 the Cathedral Choir went to Rome for All Saints Day and sang in Saint Peter's Basilica, in a papal audience with Pope John Paul II and in several concerts in Rome and Assisi. In addition to church work, Dr. Greene has served on the keyboard faculties of Ithaca College, the Nazareth College of Rochester, and Appalachian State University. He received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ and Literature from the Eastman School of Music, along with the coveted Eastman Performer's Certificate, both under the tutelage of Russell Saunders. He also received a Masters in Harpsichord from Eastman, studying with Arthur Haas and Colin Tilney. Earlier studies included degrees in organ from Applachian State University and Northwestern University, studying with H. Max Smith and Wolfgang Rübsam, respectively. A recipient of many honors and awards, he was the first recipient of the Gerald C. Graue Prize for Outstanding Research in Music History at the Eastman School. He also received the fifty-first Kate Neal Kinley Fellowship from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (held while at Eastman), and was awarded an ITT International Fellowship for harpsichord study in the Netherlands with Gustav Leonhardt. An active member of the American Guild of Organists, Dr. Greene has served the guild in many capacities, most recently as Dean of the Rochester Chapter.
