Description
Joy to the World is perhaps the best-known and easily sung of the
festival carols for Christmas. It is itself a compilation of melodies from
two of Handel's works, Lift Up Your Heads and Comfort Ye My People,
both from Messiah. This robust arrangement uses quotes from Handel to
point out the derivation of Joy to the World in interludes and accompaniments
for three verses. The orchestral parts call for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 3 trumpets,
timpani, strings and organ, but may be adapted as necessary. A beautiful close
for Midnight Mass or that combined Christmas festival concert!
