O sacrum convivium is a common text for a Eucharistic motet, coming from the traditional Magnificat antiphon for Second Vespers of Corpus Christi.
Penned by Saint Thomas Aquinas, this poem from the Corpus Christi Office reads:
O sacred banquet at which Christ is consumed, the memory of his Passion is recalled, our souls are filled with grace, and the pledge of future glory is given to us.
Alleluia.
Written in Renaissance motet style, this polyphonic setting uses touches of modern, slightly dissonant harmonies, all appropriately prepared.
The overall effect brings an old style into a modern milieu, perfectly exemplifying the CNP motto, "Traditional Music for the Contemporary Church."
The composer is a young church musician (organist, choral director) from Bergamo, Italy.
His music has been awarded prizes in competitions and appears in many international catalogues.
