Use: Sprinkling Rite during Eastertide
Required Resources: Cantor, congregation, organ
Language: English
The Sprinkling Rite is a perfect option for the Introductory Rite during the
Easter season, and I Saw Water Flowing by Alex Hill is the perfect music
to accompany it!
Based entirely on the familiar chant Vidi aquam, this
piece is introduced with a direct quote of the first line of the chant and
continues with a metrical version of the chant melody throughout.
A congregational antiphon is interspersed with two verses, a doxology, and
concluding Alleluia. Flowing water is symbolized in the walking quarter
notes of the bass line in the organ accompaniment.
With I Saw Water Flowing, Mr. Hill has
produced a marvelous liturgical setting which is rhythmic, easily sung and
faithful to the Gregorian melodies. Use it as a stately unifying element on
each of the Sundays of the Easter season!
