Liturgical Hints & Ideas
During summer Ordinary Time, when many weddings occur, we will review the musical elements of the marriage ceremony. Engaged couples and the congregation also will benefit from a deeper understanding of these principles. Parishes have permission to duplicate for their use the material in these "Liturgical Hints & Ideas" sections.
The Marriage Ceremony: Responsorial Psalm and Gospel Acclamation
The Responsorial Psalm should definitely be sung at every wedding ceremony, most properly by cantor and congregation. In certain circumstances, however, the cantor, soloist or choir alone may sing a response to the first reading, taking care that the text be based on a psalm.
The Gospel Acclamation must be sung … otherwise it is omitted. A familiar (or easily grasped) Alleluia should be used, following the usual procedure, being sung by the cantor and congregation.
Suggestions:

- Psalm 33 (Angelo della Picca) [World Library Publications]
