Here's a responsorial piece that can be used for a variety of situations: as an Entrance Processional, as a Communion Processional, as a Post-Communion meditation, or as a Dismissal piece.
The refrain has as its text:
Go and tell the world of His love;
Seek and comfort all those who stray.
Fill the dark with light from above
Walk with your neighbor on the way.
The first phrase directly quotes the chant Ubi caritas, speaking musically to the theme of God's love.
Additionally, the text "Ubi caritas, Deus ibi est" is used in a descant, with original music, that fits above the refrain as desired.
Harmonic countermelodies are given for two-part mixed choir on the refrain.
Four verses, set for cantor and organ, touch on themes of light and love:
- Isaiah 60:1 — Rise up in splendor, Jerusalem …
- John 3:16 — God so loved the world …
- Isaiah 60:2 — For behold, darkness covers the earth …
- John 3:19,21 — The light came into the world …
The fifth verse is the traditional Doxology.
