This powerful arrangement of the quintessential Catholic hymn, Holy God, We Praise Thy Name, was first sung at the dedication of the
Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse WI.
There are three verses, each with the traditional repetition of the last line of text.
After an Introduction for Trumpet 1 and Organ, the verses are arranged:
- Unison Choir, Congregation, Trumpets 1 & 2 and Organ
Text: Holy, God, we praise thy name…
- SATB Choir, Congregation, Organ (ad lib)
Text: Hark! the loud celestial hymn…
- Soprano descant, Congregation (and ATB) and Brass Quartet
Text: Holy, Father, Holy Son…
The vocal ranges on the SATB verse are completely comfortable.
Sopranos on the descant negotiate a high A (with optional B-flat).
The brass parts are written for very good high school or college-age players, at least.
The separate brass part (4303-b) for Trpt 1 & 2 in B-flat and Trombone 1 & 2 is scored with all four parts on a single sheet (as a "piano score").
Four copies are supplied with each set of parts (4303-b).
This stirring arrangement is an ideal way to add solemnity and majesty to any special Solemnity, dedication, ordination or Feast, all while joining voices in singing a paraphrase of that great hymn of praise, Te Deum Laudamus!
