This simple yet beautiful motet uses text from Psalm 129 (130) in its Latin Vulgate form:
Sustinuit anima mea in verbo ejus,
Speravit anima mea in Domino.
Sustinuit anima mea in verbo ejus.
Translation: "My souls hopes in the Lord [part B]; my soul trust in His word [part A].
In ABA form, the texture is generally polyphonic, with homophonic cadential passages.
It is particularly singable, with logical vocal parts and comfortable ranges:
- Soprano - E to F#
- Alto - B below middle C to D
- Tenor - E to F#
- Bass - low G to middle C
A perfect example of new traditional music, this piece would work equally well in an Ordinary or Extraordinary Form Mass.
