Use: General, Easter
Required Resources: SATB choir
Language: Latin
This Latin-texted motet by Thomas Kuras translates:
I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.
I am the good shepherd, and for these sheep I will give my life.
I am the good shepherd.
This occurs in the liturgy as the Gospel Verse on the 4th Sunday of Easter and as the Communion Antiphon for the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Mr. Kuras offers us a very serviceable motet for a cappella SATB choir.
The phrase, "Ego sum pastor bonus" occurs three times with the same music, interspersed around and within the remaining text ("et cognosco meas..." and "et animam meam...").
The lack of difficulty and fairly comfortable ranges (Soprano: F-G; Alto: C-D; Tenor: D-G Bass: G-D ) make this motet a great option for Communion anytime of year, particularly during Easter or when rehearsal time is limited.
