Required Resources: Organ
Written in trio format, this voluntary deftly incorporates the Easter Marian antiphon, Regina cæli.
Each phrase of the chant is played in the left hand, surrounded by contrapuntal motion in right hand and pedal.
These are each preceded by three-part polyphony, very much like a fughetta.
Set in the typical key of F Major, this voluntary could be preceded or followed by the singing of the antiphon, making a lovely Easter motet with very little work.
The writing is interesting, but not overly difficult, and would make a nice introduction to the trio form for young organ students.
