Required Resources: SATB choir
Language: Latin
Here is a short (25 measures), concise, and very useful motet for Holy Week.
Keep it in the folders for those "filler" moments without organ when a little more music is needed.
The vocal ranges are quite comfortable:
- Soprano: F#-E
- Alto: C-A
- Tenor: G-F
- Bass: G-A
The text is translated:
We adore Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee,
because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world.
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Ludivico Grossi was born in 1560 in the town of Viadana near Mantua, Italy.
He took his town's name as his surname (as did Palestrina) when he became a Franciscan friar.
He was a fine Renaissance composer, and his later techniques (like basso continuo) led to one of the hallmarks of Baroque composition.
