Dom Pedro de Cristo was an Augustinian monk of the 16th century.
He was from Coimbra, Portugal, and was noted as a composer, keyboardist, harpist and recorder player.
The text O sacrum convivium comes from the Magnificat antiphon for the then-new feast of Corpus Christi, whose poetry was written by Saint Thomas Aquinas.
The text is translated:
O sacred banquet at which Christ is consumed,
the memory of his Passion is recalled,
our souls are filled with grace,
and the pledge of future glory is given to us. Alleluia.
The editor has kept the typical Renaissance 4-2 time signature, updated the clefs and added dynamic suggestions.
The Alleluia ending reverts to a jaunty triple time, in easily-sung counterpoint.
Perfect for Corpus Christi, or a Communion motet on any Sunday outside Lent..
