Three Hymn Tune Preludes contains easy organ settings of these hymn tunes:
- Samanthra
- Quebec
- Wondrous Love
The preludes were written for three manuals and pedal, but are completely playable on two manuals and pedal.
Manual changes and registration suggestions are indicated.
The first piece sets the melody over an accompanying figure in the left hand, with slower-moving notes in the pedal.
The prelude on Quebec is a trio, with quarter-note melody in right hand, eighth note accompaniment in lef hand and dotted-half notes in pedal.
The third prelude is a contrapuntal setting using creative inversions.
The melody is in the tenor voice, again set over an easy pedal part.
Reminiscent of the quieter preludes of Paul Manz, these Three Hymn Tune Preludes offer the beginning organist as well as the accomplished organist some clean, effective settings of these North American hymn tunes.
Rev. Brian K. Muzas is a recently-ordained (May 2003) priest of the Diocese of Newark, New Jersey.
