Highlights
- Setting for solo violin or flute and continuo accompaniment
- Fully realized figured bass
- Moderate difficulty
Description
This delightful piece by Andre Campra (1660-1744) was originally scored for
strings. Our setting has the melody played by solo violin or flute, with
continuo accompaniment. The continuo may be played by cello or bassoon on
the bass line, with organ or harpsichord adding the harmonies. The arranger
has not only realized the figured bass part, but has ornamented the solo
line in keeping with typical Baroque practice. While certainly worthy of
the interest of mature players, the music of Chaconne is well within the
grasp of most junior and senior high school instrumentalists.
