Highlights
- A choral setting of a Gospel verse
- Flute or violin obligato
- Uses the hymn tune Victory and the Gregorian chant Ubi caritas
Description
In our continuing effort to offer unique ways of enhancing your liturgy with
music, we present this choral setting of a gospel verse. Although originally written
for an ordination, it can also be used for some Sundays in Ordinary Time.
The verse is built on an ostinato pattern sung by the basses, over
which the counterpoint in the soprano, alto, and tenor parts unfold the text "I
call you friends, says the Lord..." using the Victory melody. An obligato
C-instrument (flute or violin) plays a high cantus firmus of the chant Ubi
caritas in augmented notes. The congregation introduces and concludes this
verse by singing the familiar "Alleluia" refrain to the hymn tune Victory.
