Use: General, Scholastic Masses, Graduations and Baccalaureates
Required Resources: SATB choir
This a cappella motet (introit) draws its text from the book of Wisdom 9:4-6, 9.
With only a moderate level of difficulty in the choral parts, "O Grant Me Wisdom" attains an intriguing balance of counterpoint and homophony.
The opening theme in the key of a minor is treated countrapuntally, leading to a brief middle section which alternates pairs of voices.
The opening music returns in A Major and ends in solid chords on the text, "Wisdom, who knows what is pleasing in your sight, what is good in your commands, O Lord."
This short motet is ideal for any academic Mass (Opening of the Scholastic Year, Graduation, Baccalaureate) or a general Mass in which the themes of wisdom and righteousness are explored.
