Liturgical Hints & Ideas

During summer Ordinary Time, when many weddings occur, we will review the musical elements of the marriage ceremony. Engaged couples and the congregation also will benefit from a deeper understanding of these principles. Parishes have permission to duplicate for their use the material in these "Liturgical Hints & Ideas" sections.

The Marriage Ceremony: Prelude Music

Organ, instrumental, vocal or choral music may be used before the ceremony. This music should create a prayerful atmosphere for the celebration about to take place. It should encourage the guests to enter into the spirituality of the event. Music need not be all quiet; music of a festive nature is well suited to the prelude time.
