Liturgical Hints & Ideas

The flute is perhaps the ideal instrument for reflecting on the Beatitudes found in today's Gospel. Its pure tone represents the pure of heart, the meek, the peacemakers. Use some of your parish flautists in the liturgy today, particularly as soloists with organ accompaniment. A perfect repertoire suggestion: The Beatitudes: Eight Miniatures for Flute and Organ by Stephen McManus. These are captivating little pieces in neo-Baroque style, that can be used together as a suite or divided for use at various points during Mass.
